What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over a hundred cannabinoids produced by the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa L.). Unlike THC, CBD is non-intoxicating — it does not produce a “high.” CBD products sold in Europe are made from industrial hemp varieties and must respect strict THC limits that vary by country.

CBD is available in many formats — oils, capsules, edibles, drinks, topicals and vape products — which differ in how they are used and how quickly they take effect. See Types of CBD Products for a format-by-format comparison.

This page is educational and is not medical advice. CBD’s regulatory status, particularly for ingestible products, continues to evolve in the EU.
